Where I stayed
During my 5 days there the San Francisco Giants (their baseball team) was playing for the finals with Detroit Tigers and everyone there was crazy about the Giants! They swept the Tigers 4-0 and were wild celebrations there. The Giants have a really beautiful stadium just by the sea.
The city is full of immigrants, mostly asian (but also many Hispanics)
The people of San Francisco are very crazy with all kinds of craziness!
It is no surprise though as it is here that the hippie movement started in the mid 1960s that was to take over the whole world.
You have people that are crazy in the nice way, being funny and having lot's of fun, and others who are definitely mentally crazy! Probably from drug abuse.
Plus it was Halloween time (and the Giants winning the World Series) so the level of craziness and fun skyrocketed!
One night as I was walking back to my hostel, on the main road, when hundreds of people on bicycles showed up from nowhere, dressed with all kind of Halloween costumes and with their bicycles decorated with neon lights. Others had whole sound systems on their bicycles! They flooded the streets, people of all ages, and stopped at a cross section lightening fire sticks and singing
Felt like surreal!
So yes… people are a quite crazy. Maybe there is something in the air or the water they drink.
But there are as I wrote above the mentally crazy ones. Does not take much to realise that some of them are on drugs like LSD, daytime on main streets. Although many homeless and drug users approach you for money and drug dealers try to sell you drugs they are not aggressive or intimidating.
But San Francisco is a great place to visit with a lot of things to see and it is easy to go around as the transportation system is good and cheap. In my opinion (from what I have seen and told) top 2 places to visit in the US is NYC and San Francisco and could easily spend 2 weeks in each place. I do not put LA in top 2 not because is not a nice place but because it does not have as many attractions as the ones I mentioned and it is very spread out and difficult to go from one place to another. Although it does seem like a very nice place to live at. Anyway, the best places to visit in the US are those on the coast, east or west, like NYC, Miami, San Fran, LA, San Diego.
