115.58km, ave 26.4km/h, total ride time 4:22, total time 4:39
I took it easy out of camp today and was soon joined by 10-15 riders who decided to stick together with warnings of more stone throwing kids. An easy chilled ride was right up my alley and with the casual chatting going on we were soon at the lunch stop in less than 3 hours (lunch at 10am). At lunch Shona was waiting and going to ride the last 40km to camp, we got off early with a faster group with the idea that if we get dropped the group behind would pick us up. Shona stuck it out and made it back to camp with the group. There were fewer incidents today with only a few stones and sugar cane being thrown at us, I did however get walloped with a handbag, I did not expect to get hit by woman so it came as a total surprise, oh well, as they keep telling us "expect the unexpected, this is Africa" in our terms "Africa is not for sissies". The route today followed the Nile and was quite scenic, a few places reminded me of some places in Mozambique with the banana plantations. With the early arrival at camp we quickly set up the tent and had a wet wipe wash, the wet wipes were more appealing than the showers at the "club house". We are camping on a soccer field and I guess that is their club house, oh how spoilt we are at home. We spent the rest of the afternoon taking a short walk on the Nile which is across the road from our camp and then a bit of chill time around camp before rider meeting, dinner and then off to bed for an early evening. Enjoying life on the Tour!
