It is easy to fall for Paris, with its huge boulevards, vast array of historic buildings, amazing and diverse collections of art, cafe culture and of course, the best bread and cheese in Europe (well according to Kate who has dreamt about French baguettes for the last 8 years!). Paris also has a large immigrant population that contributes to the city's vibrance and cultural status in Europe.

Paris is an easy city to wander around simply enjoying the architecture, the street performers and the atmosphere. Some of the highlights during our stay included the spectacular Notre Dame Cathedral and the opportunity to witness some singing and organ playing in its imposing interior. This cathedral also has some of the best stained glass windows you will ever see. Sacre Cuer, situated on a hill overlooking Paris, is also noteworthy, for the view from both above and below, and our boat trip along the Sienne River as the sun set over the historical monuments and, of course, the Eiffel Tower, was also a highlight.

Art was another recurring theme for Paris, where it seems every aspiring artist has come to call it home. We visited the Lourve, one of the largest museums in the world, which houses numerous masterpieces including the Mona Lisa and the Venus De Milo. We also took in the excellent Picasso Museum, housing hundreds of inspired artworks, and the fascinating Salvador Dali Museum.

To round off Paris we took a day trip out to the grand Versailles Palace and Gardens, where we encoutered by far the longest lines in over nine months of travel. We eventually made it in, but remain a little disapointed that none of the famous fountains in the gardens where actually turned on (for the tens of thousands of visitors who all paid exhorbitant rates to line up for hours...). Nonetheless, Paris remains an all too charming city where it would be much too easy to linger (if we could afford it).

More photos of Paris at a later date.
