After an overnight train trip along the forested and flat Siberia we arrived in the small city of Krasnayarsk. The town is a fairly average Russian city and we spent most of our time enjoying the nearby attractions. First day there we took a scenic boat trip up the Yenisey River (which flows all the was into the Artic Ocean) to the town of Divanorsk and spent some time wandering along the banks of the river and through the town. On our second day we caught a local bus to the Stolbey National Park, which is famous for its strange volcanic rock pillers. The Park has a number of walking trails through the forested mountains to the various pillars, and we spent the day exploring these and enjoying a picnic.

Nights (well we never actually saw the sun go down, but anyway) were spent at one of the many beer tents set up along the river. The locals seem to drink all day during summer and the beer tents (complete with music and food) are packed and full of action of the evenings. It was quite interesting watching the crowds (and fashion) pass by and the locals partying on.

Our two days here were an enjoyable stop and a good excuse to get of the train.
