In fact Jan decided that as I wouldn't budge on her baggage allowance there wasn't much to be gained by practicing her packing and after figuring we weren't really going to use our motorcycle kit here she might as well sort things all in one go.
Much to my surprise there she was ready to depart (apart from a few girlie things) on Sunday and believe it or not with a Kg or three spare capacity. I do think this tactic may result in me spending more time in the shops down under than I had anticipated!
As for my packing I figure if there are a few hours before the taxi arrives then I must have plenty of time
We keep noticing on the BBC News from Heathrow that the reporter standing by the active runway has a couple of Qantas A380 in the background. How considerate of Qantas to send a spare plane over for us and to have it hanging around a day or so before we are due to depart.
In fact it would appear that the Aussies are getting even more hospitable than usual as they have declared a Australia Day national holiday weekend for our arrival. We even received our dress code instruction of 'don't forget swimming trunks/bikini' and the notice mentioned BBQ, water skiing and beer.
Apparently during a recent dress rehearsal the practice of delivering a warm welcome got a little out of hand, the mercury tried to escape to a record level and more charcoal was produced than they had bargained for.
Typical Aussies trying to out do the Poms.
We just light the odd strategically placed beacon on special occasions and don't burn the bloody countryside down. Although thinking about it now its that wet we even have self extinguishing countryside in the UK these days.
Looking at the weather forecast though it looks like the rain curse that seems to follow Wally round the world is on cue to dampen the welcome party! At least that will give the fire brigade a rest and all Jan will have to worry about is the snakes, spiders crocodiles, jelly fish, sharks and Bluey!!
After all I have been doing my best to conjure up an image between Sir Les Patterson and Borat!!
Lets just hope the local male swimming attire isn't a mankini !!!
As you can see from the attached picture Jan does enjoy a little gentle sailing and was so excited to find out there is an opportunity to sail in Sydney Harbor on an ex Americas Cup boat maybe she is so excited that's why she packed so early.
Only a couple of hours now so I guess I had better start packing!
See you down under for part 3
