The very first official Midessex Blog pages!!!

Less than a week to go and it's looking very very likely that as ever Miners has got his timing wrong...its coming early....the snow that is.

It's supposed to snow next Thursday by which time we should be half way to Sydney!

It was -8C when Max and I pedaled off to school this morning. It didn't take him long though to realize that just because Dad is a baldy and always needs a hat, maybe it was chilly enough to require something under his crash helmet!!

Max and I came to an early agreement in respect of the extended trip. No worries at all as long as he has his BMX bike all will be well. His ipod supports Facetime and he has got the hang of sending emails so there shouldn't be much difference between 1.5 and 15000 miles. I bet he still won't want to chat on the phone though.

There is no truth in the rumor that the trip is being sponsored by Apple but we will be taking with us an ipad and ipad mini. Wonderful pieces of kit that should pay for themselves in reduced excess baggage charges as we can leave the library back home and take the electronic version instead.

The Tour Down Under provided the perfect excuse to replace our ageing mobiles. Our original iphones have operated faultlessly for over 3 years so as far as we were concerned it was a no brainer that we replaced them with the current model.

Having had the luxury of Company phones it's bit of a shock having to deal with the retail outlets.
Our first port of call on Monday was the Vodafone shop in the High St where we were quoted a price and trade in value for our old phones.
Jan popped back in later to confirm we could use a friends and family discount and we did a price comparison next door at EE which was a very similar deal. 24 hours later in we marched ready to purchase two new iphones.

It started to go wrong when the sweet but dumb girl couldn't even remember us. Bearing in mind I was even wearing the same cycling kit even if she was blind I'm sure she would remember the smell!!

The deal fell out of bed when the trainee manager denied making us an offer or even speaking to us the day before. I bit my tongue and declined to give him a lecture on customer service and took our business elsewhere.

Its no bad thing as they are useless so we walked into Phones4U and 30 minutes later walked out with 2 new iphones and they paid us to take them away in exchange for our old phones.(and a better tariff).

So armed with more computing power than the NASA mission to the moon we have a major decision to make.........do we need to take a separate camera?

Being the point and click type rather than the arty farty type I think we will try without.

Tomorrow is practice packing day!!!
