Wednesday 6th Jan 2010
p.m.
Landed just 10 minutes late after an uneventful flight... slept between meals and drinks!
The locals are complaining its cold in Nassau, but at 21degs I thought it was rather pleasant even if there was a cool evening breeze. The hotel is a usual 3 star but the staff are very friendly and its all inclusive so I enjoyed a few free drinks and listened to a local group called The Island Boys.
The car hire is something else not only is it LHD but its semi-automatic and came complete with an array of dents and scratches, and they still drive on the left!

Thursday 7th Jan 2010
a.m.
Cool 20 degs but donned shorts and went for a long walk up Cabbage beach, Pirate beach and Paradise beach returning via the Atlantis complex. This is further up from what was the Nassau Beach hotel.

p.m.
Went and found Montague Village which is now called Montague Villas. From the outside it looked much the same. I couldn't get in because of automatic gates. I spoke to a resident who was coming out who told me nothing has changed and the pool is still the same, but there is no management office on site so I couldn't ask for a look round.

Next stop was Fox Hill Road, the prison has at least doubled in size (so has the population of Nassau). What used to be the Psychiatric hospital next door is now the Geriatric Hospital. I didn't hang around in case they asked me in! There is no sign of the old radio station as both the prison and the hospital have expanded and now front Fox Hill road.

Evening
I had dinner in the hotel's posh restaurant, shrimp starter, crispy grouper for main, washed down with a few glasses of wine...very nice. Then I watched the local cabaret, usual stuff, limbo dancing and local Caribbean music.

Friday 8th Jan 2010
a.m.
Went for a long walk in the other direction up Cabbage beach to the golf course, which is very exclusive and costs a fortune for a round.

p.m.
Went downtown Nassau. Bay Street is much the same and some of the shops we knew are still trading. The Government Buildings are still the same, as is the library. The straw market has gone, it burnt down a couple of years ago! It was a bad day to go into town as two cruise ships were in harbour and the place was packed. Went down to Montague Fort and tried to find Montague Hotel but its all been redeveloped and there are lots of corporate businesses and the Brazilian Embassy on that site. The British High Commission has closed and all Consulate business is now covered from Kingston, Jamaica.

Evening
I ate in the hotel buffet restaurant and enjoyed a few rum & cokes at the bar! Cor they don't half make them strong! Good job I'm leaving tomorrow, this all inclusive is ok but it makes you ensure you get your monies worth!

Saturday 9th Jan 2010
a.m.
Packed and checked out. Had some time to kill so I went to find Parmdale, The supermarket has disappeared! Drove up the West end of the Island to Lyford Cay which is now a private Golf and country club. Completed the circuit of the island and drove past Nassau's own brewery. No guided tours unfortunately!

p.m.
Handed the hire car back and told them I was going to complain as I hadn't ordered a car that the a/c didn't work on and that one of the rear doors wouldn't open. Got the Bahamian shrug in response!

Checked in for the flight to the Grand Cayman Islands only to find it was delayed for an hour because of bad weather in LHR!
