WEll, now that things have settled down a bit, I'll finish off the last bit of Ireland. We decided to attempt a pub crawl for our big night out in Killarney - not a very difficult thing to do, as every second building is a pub! Met some interesting characters including an eccentric Australian classic musician, a polish heavy metal singer and a young irish lad who was obsessed with penguins of all things ( tried to convince us that he preferred these wonderful birds (he even carried a stuffed one around - see picture) to Naomi Cambell, Claudia Schiffer Etc). The boy needs to get out a bit more!!!

Off we went the next day, with surprisingly clear heads to see the Cliffs of Moher which is one of the classic images of Ireland that you've probably seen before. Yes, it was beautiful and spectacular, but completely ruined by tourists. It took quite an effort to manage to get a photo WITHOUT the tourist hoardes in it, but eventually succeeded. A couple of K's from the cliffs, this massive fence suddenly appears out of nowhere. You are herded, along with hundreds of buses and other hapless tourists into a compound (for which of course you have to pay to enter) and then up a 3m high fenced path which is lined with trashy celtic rugs, ear damaging young girls playing the worst, nauseating bad Irish harp music you will ever hear and dodgy trinkets and post-cards. WHY? In the end, Lisa enjoyed it, but Mick was VERY HAPPY to escape.

The day was redeemed by an afternoon in a Galway pub where we watched the Munster hurling final with a bunch of locals. The game is a combination of AFL and hockey - we must have looked pretty strange - you spend most of the game ducking - it always seems as though those sticks are going to bash someones brains in - but somehow always manage to miss.

So, we headed back to Dublin the next morning a bit sad to leave, but in other ways pretty happy. We'd had enough of the endless U2 and the pretty dreadful food - it seemed like every single menu in Ireland consisted of the same three meals - Irish Stew, Beef & Guiness Pie and Irish Salmon. All served with Spuds of course. The country could do with a wee bit of diversification.
