I hate giving in to anything, but Paris defeated us! We were tired, and sick of trying to communicate in another language. It took us all day to find our 'hostel', largely thanks to the rudest, most unhelpful people have ever encountered. I have heard all the stories, and know that Parisians have a reputation for rudeness, but I was not prepared for it to be quite that bad. I had been practicing my S'il vous plait - je ne parles francais - parles vous Anglais etc. All to no avail. It all started when we tryed to get directions from the train station - there are three floors of platforms, and the charming girl at the counter answered to our request for platform information - 'upstairs' - after turning to the girl next to her and muttering something that sounded like bloody tourists in french.

Anyway, we will try not to make this a winge - however everywhere we went people were equally abusive and unhelpful, our hostel was in the middle of nowhere, it stank and was very dirty, we couldn't get anywhere to eat (can you beleive that - in Paris?)

In a nutshell, we gave up and got on the first plane to Ireland. We will go back, I am determined we will find the romantic side of Paris - just not this trip. If any of you decide to travel to Paris DO NOT go through Charles De Gualle Airport - it is the ugliest, stinkiest airport I've ever been to. People push and shove you and it took 5 hours to get on the plane - boy am I glad we left early.

sorry, there are no photos.
