Shoutout to Isaac Hanson for that great lyric providing the title to this entry.

We've just arrived in Bali. The flight from KL was pretty bumpy (due to the dark clouds all around), and I got stuck sitting beside a new type of traveler we've identified as the Agitated Smoker, the types who yearn for a cigarette so badly that they fidget constantly and chatter on endlessly to try to distract themselves, regardless of how much I want to sleeeeep. Michelle was entertained for the entire flight by an adorable Malaysian bebe, fortunately well-behaved. The airport in Denpasar was not as chaotic as we had expected, though it was no KLIA, which was the best airport ever. Apparently, this airport has even won prestigious airport awards! Whoever gives out these awards has: a) the weirdest job ever and b) great taste in airports.

ANYWAY, we got to Bali's main beach, and we're staying in a hilariously sketchy place. You have to turn the key around twice to get the thin wooden door to lock, and flick the bathroom light on and off six times rapidly in order to turn it on. The shower is basically a faucet sticking out of the wall, which reminds me of good old Bigote, Peru, only this one's water pressure is more like a high-powered garden hose. The walls are alarmingly dirty, the kind that make you wonder, how did the dirt get WAY UP THERE...? And there's a freaky broken armoire (probably houses a Boggart) with graffiti inside that reads "Sink is leaky". Uh, thank you for the heads up, "Siam '07".

So we went for a walk on the beach (still in our airplane clothes, BAD CALL) and got so soaked and salty that we had to run back to our room for a shower, by which I mean a hose-down. We found it's more of a surfing beach than a swimming beach, as the waves are massive and the beach itself is super-busy and cluttered with boards and other surfer paraphernalia. We're planning on finding a more relaxed beach tomorrow, perhaps with smaller surf, so we don't die, or embarrass ourselves too much. More updates later on, once we figure out what the deal is with this crazy island, and whether or not "Syndicate" is indeed the "illest superlounge in Bali", as advertised on this flyer I just found at the internet cafe.

Bali Beaches
Sounds like you might have cruised kuta beach where all the drunken Aussies go (and which had a bombing a few yrs ago!). Maybe you could try Sanur beach which is probably quieter. We also stayed at Lovina beach on the other side but it has black sand which some people dont like... Man I'd try ANY beach..it's -22C here today!

ummm Nikki... did you remember to get your G?
roger that, Papa Hugh. -22 degrees blows!
I just opened the door to let the Binx out and my face nearly froze enough to break off at the neck. and that wasn't even direct contact. brutal!
action plan Last Day in Peterborough: anything that involves not going outside, unless it's running to the car in which case I will be sure to make triplet chauffeur warm it up before I make the sprint. oh yeah, did I tell you about how my G2 recently expired? because it definitely happened. a month or two ago. good thing the siblings are on top of their G2s because otherwise I'd be getting nowhere in this town via car.
in other news, I just got my G1! hah! without even STUDYING! man, that could have been potentially embarrassing. the other good news is that apparently you don't have to wait a certain amount of time to do the rest of the driving tests, you just have to pay for them again like a sucka.

this holiday has been great minus week long sickness that plagued the whole family. just getting over that one now. and sleeping on couch. although I just got promoted to bed status for my last couple evenings since Tim left. wooo luxury!

anyway, glad to hear the holiday season seems to be going well over where the two of you are. I hope Syndicate is everything it claims to be and more and that you find a more quiet beach for sweet hangout times by the water. I also missed you a merry christmas, and happy new year!
