After our crazy jungle tour we needed a few days of serious R & R, not to mention that all of our clothes, bags, everything smelled like jungle(damp and muddy) so we needed to do some serious laundry!  Baņos is about 3 hours south of Quito and it took us another overnight bus ride to get there from Lago Agrio, after of course our 2 hour canoe and 3 hour truck ride out of Cuyabeno.  Baņos is well known for itīs thermal baths(hence the name) or īspasī is more like it and is very much a touristy town.  It is surrounded by mountains and offers a lot of outdoor activities such as white water rafting, canyoning and mountain biking.  Carolyn and I chose the easiest activities we could find!  We went to the baths at least once a day(most have many pools ranging from freezing cold to boiling hot), had facials and massages, went horseback riding through the mountains, went up the mountain at nightime to see the nearby active volcano, and took a tour of all the nearby waterfalls.  Our days in Baņos were really great, again we met some really great people and went out on the town several nights, hence the lazy days that followed!

I need a good thermal bath right now! My fingers are freezing off in English Town... I think it's about time to close the door and turn on the HEAT!
