Toilets in Japan are like nowhere else. They should give university course credit for mastering the controls. Front wash, rear wash, at your desired water temperature, heated seat temperature, need a blow dry? Just push the correct button. They even have a 'discretion' button which will make sounds, either music or a fake flush, to camouflage potentially embarrassing noises you may be making. Unfortunately for us, the controls are not labeled in English. The schematics are not much help either. Several times we looked in vain for the 'flush' button only to realize there is a low tech lever on the tank for that. But not always. The modern trains seem to have gotten into the act with deluxe toilets. It is all good. But it does make one wonder what compels the Japanese to come up with such advancements.

We have included some pictures from previous visits to Kyoto in other seasons.Kyoto in autumn is not to be missed!
