Where I stayed
BANGKOK NOVEMBER 2007
After looonggg flights, we arrived in Bangkok. The airport is very impressive, except understaffed. Maybe because it was such an ungodly hour, 1:30 am. In any case, the old airport was to the north of Bangkok and this one is nearer to Pattaya.
We took a taxi to our hotel. Because we arrived so late, the hotel didn't charge us for the first "night", more like a few hours, we got in at 4 AM and check out time is noon. They told us to come back an hour later then it would be no problem. Don't know why. We were hungry so grabbed a little snack. We were too wound up to sleep anyway. The first room I looked at was a little smelly, luckily they had a better one with a smaller bed but newer. Our shower is the oposite of the rainforrest shower we had at the St Regis. A small stream, but warm. And I know I am saving the planet in my own small way.
The weather is great, sunblock time. We drove with the local bus to the northern bus station to book tickets for our 12 hr trip to the border town of Chiang Khong Thailand from where we will cross to Laos. We'll leave tomorrow night at 7PM and arrive at 7 in the morning at our destination. I don't expect to be able to Skype or e-mail for awhile.
