We packed up the tent and were back on the highway about 8AM. 5 km down the road we were happy to find a village with several choices for breakfast. A quesadilla was perfect for me and fried eggs for Dave. I asked for a "limonada natural" - that got us a two liter pitcher of fresh squeezed lemonade. We polished that off in no time.

A lot of climbing today - steady up for 20 km, a small downhill then more up before making the final 10 km downhill run into Huajuapan!

Slowly, the tall cacti were disappearing. It continued to be arid landscape but still with a lot of green patches of vegetation. As we crossed the Oaxaca state line, the road became much narrower with a bumpy surface. For the next 10km we cautiously went generally down hill keeping our eyes pealed for potholes that might swallow us whole. Looking back to the northeast, we saw the snow covered volcano in Puebla, perhaps a 100km away. When reached a point where the valley broadened, we spotted the spread out town of Huajuapan below in the distance. Several prominent church towers stood out. It is a much bigger town than we expected.

Nearing the center, we picked the first hotel we checked. Clean, WiFi (but no toilet seat) for 178 pesos. I questioned the owner about the missing toilet seat, he explained that people walk off with them!. We did the laundry in the hotel wash room below and hung it on the roof to dry. A busy little taco place two doors down was a a great place for dinner. We ended up taking an extra rest day here.
