Tlaquepaque is a suburb about 7 km from central GDL. It is choc-a-bloc with home decor boutiques.The central plaza around the church is a pleasant enough gathering place with it's fruit, juice and taco stalls. Nearby is a city block with sidewalk dining and large colorful courtyard for dining and where mariachis perform after 4pm.
Another reason to visit is the mile/1.5 km pedestrian walkway lined with fabulous galleries. We spent several hours admiring the artwork from handcrafted leather bags to unique pottery and metalwork.
At around 4:30 we searched and found the LP recommended restaurant "Abajeño". A lively place, popular with well off Mexican families. And a splurge for us! We we're seated in the large shaded courtyard with good view of stage area. We started off with tasty "mojitos" and nibbled on the marinaded carrots, onions and potatoes and enjoyed the mariachi music and colorful dance performances. Then a mango margarita that packed a punch before the main course of "Almorro al Pibil", a Pork shank boiled in Pibil , a velvety smooth and delicious smoky sauce. Dave had also a scrumptious dish: "Borrego al Pastor" or wood-grilled lamb. We thoroughly enjoyed our selves and lingered for several hours before heading back "home".
