We woke early to another overcast morning but we're not complaining. We know in the near future, we're going to be wishing for cool and overcast.

We blog at the hotel and have leisurely breakfast of huevo's rancheros and oatmeal at the marina. We finally got on the road at 11 am. The Adventure Cycling Association route that we are following leaves the coast at Redondo Pier, crosses ugly and busy city streets for 12 miles to reach the LA River cycling trail. The river trail is not very scenic but it is traffic free. We followed that for 5 miles then reach the lovely marina in Long Beach where we spot the Queen Mary.  Here we took a break and enjoyed a few crackers and cheese before continuing along the beach trail. In spite of the wind and relatively cool temps (66F) and no sun in sight, lots of vacationers braved the beaches.

Downtown at Starbucks, we used the internet to help us decide where to spend the night. We decided to call it a day and booked a hotel here in Long Beach for the night. We had to back track through the historic old part of town for a few miles to our reasonably priced motel. On the way we picked up some ready made Cobb salads and bottle of pre-mixed Margaritas to enjoy in the room...yummm The hotel was not in the best neighborhood. It was older, but very clean, and we were able to take our bike's inside the room. What more could we want? We played some cards before dropping off. We slept like babes.
