First thing in the morning, we drove a few miles back to the center of Pagosa Springs to view the hot-springs in daylight. About an inch of snow had accumulated on the cars overnight and someone had drawn a happy face on my back window.

Our destination for today is Ouray, another hot-springs town about 130 miles northwest. Dave booked a nice hotel with hot-springs on the hill behind the lodge. Halfway, in Durango, we picked up a few groceries and stopped at colorfully decorated Mexican restaurant for lunch. After Durango(HW 550) the drive became even more scenic as we climbed through high alpine mountains.

It was a beautiful drive. As we summited the 11000 foot pass, we had a nail biting descent down the guardrail-less hairpin curves with snow flurries obscuring our views. To top it off, Susan, our TomTom GPS voice, sent us down "ski run road" as we decended into the town. The road was aptly named and would have been the "fastest" way to our hotel. But seeing it covered in a foot of snow with a very few tire tracks in the snow because of its steepness, we skipped this turn and took the longer way down main street.

At around 2 pm we checked in to our hotel in Ouray. A charming little town in the Rockies. We immediately dipped into the hot-spring fed wooden tub perched on the mountainside.
