Where I stayed
From Key West, we headed back along the Keys and north to Everglades NP where we pitched our tent then raced over to the Anhinga Nature Trail-Walk. We arrived just before sundown, the most optimum time to view wildlife. And we were not disappointed. The trail followed a small river and had several boardwalks overlooking prime wildlife viewing spots. December is a great time of year to do this. The temperatures are bearable and there are few tourists. There were quite a few serious photographers with humongous lenses and professional level camera equipment. Dave had brought his light weight tri-pod and attached my compact digital camera to it. It looked a bit comical next to the others with their big equipment.
In surroundings like that, it is almost impossible to shoot bad pictures. We watched alligators only feet from us, on land and in the water. One alligator captured a turtle, see photo. It is birders paradise. blue heron, green heron, anhingas, egrets, wood storks, cormorants and many more, I can't begin to know all their names. One can clearly see all the different fish, turtles, frogs etc in the clear water.
