Where I stayed
We had arrived in Hilton Head after dark. I could make out the silhouettes of hundreds of palms, reminding us of CA. The 7x12 mile Island, or more accurately the peninsula, has a number of gated/guarded "Plantations" or subdivisions. It is low season for the Island so it was really tranquil. I estimate the condo's were just 2 or 3 percent occupied. It must be a real zoo during the summer.
We spent a full day exploring the island by bike enjoying the cool but sunny weather. We picnicked on a dune. We rode our bikes for miles over the gorgeous wide beach with wind in our backs. .
Timeshare developments are popular as well we found out during one of their presentations! Yes, we got suckered into one of those. We couldn't resist when they offered us $100. to listen to their 90 minute spiel. At least we could do this on our way out of town the second morning...
