Hi,
This morning we went back to the primary school. I brought a map of the world for the kids and our guide showed the kids where Canada is and where Malawi is and tried to explain the trip. Not sure how that translated!!
We then took the kids outside and added tooth paste to their new tooth brushes. Everyone enjoyed the spitting more than the brushing except for one wee lady who swallowed her tooth paste and was quite upset until we gave her some water. I spent about 5 minutes giving out tooth paste and then 10 minutes watching them brush and then spit!!
After brushing was story time we each took 7 children and sat under a tree and read to them. They all wanted to touch the book and look at the pictures...I think with a lot of hand movements I did the three little bears books proud. We laughed at the girl who broke the chair and feel asleep in the bed. It is amazing they are like little sponges.
After the kids came up individually and sang a song with numbers.....I have attached Agnes. She is amazing she is maybe 3 or 4 and her mom has a small cell phone minutes store up the street. (you buy a scratch card and get minutes for your throw away phone).
In the village we are working in the well is broken. One of the couples we are travelling with donated $1k for the well to be rebuilt. It is amazing when the water starts and the kids all run in to bath under the water. The well has been broken so long the kids do not remember running water.
We then left our village and went to the Benny's Hope site that the people who travelled to Africa 5 years ago built a primary school. It was amazing to watch them walk to the school, see all the changes to the village and reconnect with kids and friends they had made on their last visit.
Tomorrow is the tobacco auction (from the 2011 Amazing Race) and a pottery shop for shopping and lunch.
Life is great...to my kids and husband I wish you were with me for this experience.
Less than two weeks and I will be back to work...do you miss me?
Love you all
Michelle
XOXO
