My first week of university has just ended before the weekend and I wanted to write a bit about what I have been experiencing so far during my courses.

Promotional strategies- such a cool teacher very modern and ready to share all her tips about Vancouver with me and Vaida. Most of the things she has been teaching are not a rocket science. I already got to know some of them while studying in Denmark but the project is going to be exciting I guess. We have to make an Integrated Marketing Communications plan for a real business. Our group's project is gonna kick ass I’m suuuure!

After the classes (9:30 in the evening yeees!!! Don’t be surprised) I found out that there’s a night market in Vancouver somewhere in Richmond where there’s great food that I have to try! Also the teacher suggested visiting Lyn Valley and the beach there for free. Seymore Mountain seems to be a good suggestion also …so many things started filling up my wish list again!

What I was really surprised about was…to find out that whenever we feel afraid to walk to or from the university or to/from the bus station close to the uni we can call a security number and a security guy is gonna show up just to make sure that we don’t feel awkward and take care of us while leading us to the station or home. That’s amazing! Isn’t it?

Social media for businesses- awwww! I love this teacher! She’s the type of woman that inspires and motivates. A great professional lady in her 30’s very outgoing and smiling and ready to share examples and opinions on every little subject or topic.

I simply love her and the atmosphere she creates in class. This semester I will get to learn more about how to make a social media plan for a business and how to implement it. I’m gonna learn much more than I have ever thought about: YouTube, Facebook, twitter, blogs, e-newsletters and many other social platforms that not only can be used for free but also help us so much to earn a reputation in today’s society!

Brand from inside out-oh my God! My first impression of this guy who’s teaching the subject was very subjective. At the beginning he told us that some of the students in the class are there for the second time as they didn’t manage to pass their exam. Therefore, he must be a very exigent teacher, I told to myself. After several minutes of introduction I found out that this teacher is the most amazing one that I have ever had and his sense of humor and irony are something that every person would love to have.

I was surprised to see how much experience he had in the whole branding area starting from the branding of Metropolis Mall at Metrotown to branding the whole tourism in Vancouver and Whistler Mountain. He promised us that by the time we will be finishing the classes we will be willing to pursue a career in branding and he’s gonna make sure that we will have all the necessary background for it!

He’s constantly asking us who’s the best teacher in the world and people are screaming out loud :"Larry!”

Interviewing for radio and television-even if I thought it’s sad to go to the university on Saturdays from 9:00-16:00 just because I have Fridays off…I could say that I have easily changed my mind after being part of this great course.  The teacher is very friendly and has so many examples that simply keep you focused and interested and I found out so many things about the Canadian Television and the International concept of interviewing! She’s also a professional working for the Canadian Broadcasting Program.

I will be already having my first assignment this week for which I have to prepare: my first radio interview about a memorable holiday. I’m so enthusiastic about that and confident at the same time that it will be a good opportunity to express myself and use my passion for media.

Last but not least, I would have liked to talk about TV production and planning, one of the other courses that I should have had, but since it’s gonna start just this week I will come with an update about it  later.

So far…so good! I believe that I made the right decision when I decided to come and study at this specific university which is considered a really serious one in Canada. Even if I can’t be away from my classes more than one day per semester I don’t really care because all that I am studying right now is what I like to do and I am doing it with passion.

There are those moments when students hate the end of the weekends and the beginning of the week just because the university starts or….they have to study too much. I DON’T! Today I’m glad that I chose a program that I like and I hope all this semester is going to be as interesting and nice as this first week.

During the week I also took part at an Introduction Event for the international students where we were presented the clubs that the university offers and we had some pizza, drinks and T-shirts with the university brand. I already have 2 of them!

I said I love being in Vancouver…now I say it again out loud: I love being a student in Vancouver!
