Late start….but great experiences afterwards. Soon after we have arrived at the uni, we decided that a cup of coffee would be a great start of the day before we'll be meeting the others.
I explored the area and found out so many things about the university I will be studying at. The campus is huuuuge (like a very small town) with everything that you could dream of. I was so happy to see that we have a Starbucks there and many other possibilities to hang out with our friends.
The sports facilities are awesome ! From squash, tennis, football, dancing lessons, climbing, fitness, aerobics, boot camp to badminton..everything is there for us ready to be used!
Two of the nicest things that happened to me during my first orientation day were being offered a coffee by one of the head teacher of the management program and finding out that my tutor who is going to help me with everything here is Romanian (coming from Braila). I would say: great start of the day!
Afterwards we started meeting each other and it was funny to see and observe every person around me: some were shy, some were silent, some were curious, some were polite, some were anxious and some were interesting… A real blend of cultures from all over the Europe and not only.
We filled in some formality papers and presented ourselves in front of the others. Afterwards we had a tour of the campus and a group picture with the BCIT T-shirts right in front of the classroom where we met!
I really loved the open-minded policy that the university displays
I have to admit that my decision to study in Denmark was excellent! I felt so integrated here and so familiarized with all these formalities that people are scared of or shy about. And all of this was because of my previous experience in DK.
We also had a quite interesting workshop where we got to know about the Canadian culture and the differences between Canadians and Americans.
I found out interesting things such as:
-a Canadian hockey player's typical hair is THE MULLET
-food they mostly use: MACARONNI AND CHEASE (I was thinking about hamburgers)
-a toque is a BRIMLESS HAT
One of the teachers who were taking care of everything during this orientation day was Ukrainian so I also got to know how to say "hi" in Ukrainian
At the end of the day it was cool to see that all of us still wanted to meet after a long session of explanations and workshops. So we decided to go out for a drink. There I got to know people better and I hope that we’ll keep our group as big as it is now during every event that we’re going to attend!
I love being at the university again and I love being a student! These are the years I’ll definitely remember forever!
But what I love more is that I am still on holiday until Monday while the others are not! Mw-ha-haaa!
I can only enjoy my time and be ready for the great start on Monday!
Become a student of change. It is the only thing that will remain constant.
