Sort of like san christobel but without the soul and a million more gringos (some of them achingly cool)
Stunning setting, surrounded by massive volcanos (some over 4,000m and some active!!)
Crumbling colonial era churches...hit by earthquakes, eruptions and floods, only reinhabited in the last 100 years or so...
Iglesia y Convento de la Recolecion (built between 1701-1708 and destroyed in 1773 earthquake) is probably more beautifull ruined than it was intact....
Daytrip up pacaya with mark and jonothan
Comida corrida at the market (comida sabina I think>)...really friendly lady, great/super cheap food and all the cops ate there.
Stayed in a nice place, Pasa Bien, basically a family home with a shared kitchen and they let out a few rooms..nice people...great rooftop.
Casa Popenoe built in 1636, not a bad pad at all, bought by the Popenoes and brought back to life.
Live music, drinks and marsmallow toasting at the rainbow café with Mark, then attacked by a pack of mangy dogs on the way home!!!
trip to Lake Atilan
Great driving all the way; chimaltenango then los encuentros (engine siezing) then solala then pana then a lancha to santa cruz
