Veurne

Arrived from England via France in the early evening. Beatiful town, ice-skating and beer drinking in the town square, lots of old buildings. Very strange not knowing a word of Flemish..... suddenly we were in Belgium. Stayed in a lovely place run by a sweet young couple. Put on a fabulous breakfast set us up for the day. Had a good look around; into the cathedral, a few shops, the municiple buildings and council chambers (very old and still used), a little art exhibition....really nic town.

Brugges

Took the backstreet route, pretty flat countryside, lots of little one church villages and agriculture. Brugges is a beatiful city of canals, large squares and grand buildings. We were a little overawed on out first day and wandered about ainlessly. Nark and Bill still had the presence of mind to squeeze in a couple of cheeky beers (got t o be some of the best in the world). The chocolate, waffles and chips with mayonaise were also pretty good.

An ice-sculpture show was amazing, stacks of kids having a ball and some very fine carvings. Really is enough to fill up four-five days... heaps of galleries, museums and sights.

Headed the next morning for a brief stopover in Gent, before swining south back into France.
