After a little over an hour packing I'm ready for my trip. One pair of pants, two pairs of shorts, five t shirts and a long sheeve shirt stuffed into my uncle's rucksack, my mom is asking me, "you sure you don't need more clothes." But as I plan to walk through the cities I visit I can't afford to drag along a large suitcase. My laptop and my camera did fit into my bag. I did give in though and took a small little bag along with rucksack just in case I run out of room. In terms of weird things I have decided to pack, my father insisted I bring a security chain to hook up to my laptop. I am not too concerned about theft on VIA Rail but I guess you never know.
Speaking of VIA Rail, what an awesome deal I am getting for traveling across the country. I decided to purchase a CanRail pass, a product they've had for fifty years and what a bargain! For $576 I get twelve days of travel and I can get off and on whenever I want. Now I was confused when I first arranged for the pass because I thought I had twelve days to see the whole country. But that is actually not the case. I can travel for 12 days on the train. For example my first stop in Sudbury is for three days. I leave tonight at 10:22 from Toronto and arrive in Sudbury at 5:13 tomorrow morning. That is two days of travel. I stay in Sudbury for three days. But my time in Sudbury doesn't count against the twelve days. Then I take the train called "the Canadian." As I just found out yesterday, the Canadian is a train that travels across the whole west of our country and has dining cars, sleeping cars and an observatory on the top of one of the cars. Man, I can't wait to get this trip started! Now an hour till I take the train from St. Catharines where my parents live, to Toronto where I will catch the 10 o'clock train west.
