Where I stayed
30TH JANUARY 2011 - After our nice continental breakfast at our hotel in Monterey we went for a brief walk around here. We took a few photos and left as it was raining. We had to fill up with petrol (sorry 'gas') and then went Trader Joe's to get some drinks. Trader Joe's is a really good fruit and vegetable market (similar to Mother Nature's) but much better. This place has the best salads but I didn't buy any because we were full from breakfast. We bought some drinks and I bought a material Trader Joe's bag for shopping at home. Bring Trader Joe's to Australia!!! Its cool as it has great selections of everything and great salads! So call me silly I don't care but I had to take a photo of my favourite food shop.
We left mid morning and drove the rest of the day along the Highway 1, cruising the Big Sur, a coastal road that takes us all the way to LA. We saw some beautiful coastline and stopped many times to take photos and take in the views. Its sort of similar to the Great Ocean Road in Victoria but just quietly I think the one in Australia is so much prettier.
We saw a colony of elephant seals which was really cool. There was so many cute babies and these creatures are huge and well not overally attractive looking dudes. We continued to drive along the coast and come about 5pm we decided to stay the night in the thriving metropolis of Cayucos, a cute coastal town. Our room at the Shoreline Inn is nice and is right on the beach and have nice sea views right on the beach and wasn't expensive. We had an early dinner and it was yummy. Troy had steak and asked it to be "blue" and the guy didn't know what that was so he settled for rare. I had a yummy calamari steak with mash and vegetables and also comes with a salad so I was happy. I love my veges and crave for them all the time.
We can't believe our U.S.A road trip will be ending soon. It's been an experience driving in USA. Some things are just so different here --- we don't know why just about every highway is dedicated to someone dearly departed and its sad thing seeing big flashing signs of child abduction and car details. It's unbelievable just how many people in USA do not indicate when driving. Also so many highways are so poorly lit or not lit at all so driving in thick fog isn't fun at all. We are looking forward to going to Hawaii to do not much more than a little bit of sightseeing but more relaxing by the pool or beach and Mary is search for Hawaiian pizza in Hawaii (if it exists) ha ha!! We won't miss weaving in and out like spaghetti driving around the many highways through so many different lanes of traffic.
