18TH JANUARY 2011 - I didn't have a great night because Troy was snoring all night so that means no sleep for me.  We checked out of our Anaheim motel and jokingly complained that we didn't get a room with Mickey Mouse bed cover.  After breakfast which was rather basic with mostly sweet stuff we left our Anaheim motel about 10.30am and drive to San Diego. Randy (our car) and us made it to San Diego a few hours later.  We check into our motel and dump our stuff.  We could really get used to this two queen size beds in our room, its fabulous and this one is only $48 per night.

We chilled out in our room for a while (I could of stayed in all day) and then had lunch at a nearby restaurant.  I had a burger which wasn't bad but made me feel somewhat sick because the bread was oily and I think it was fried so yeah it was too much.  Troy had chicken.  We then drove into town. We parked the car and went for a walk around town and well it didn't seem really impressive. There are some nice old buildings and lots of restaurants.  We had a drink at Dick's Resort which was a cool cafe that had funny menu with names and descriptions of food and drink.  We then just walked the streets for a while passing several beggars and one actually had a sign "rocket ship out of fuel" so what does that mean? assuming he is hungry?  So not overly impressed with the city we drove to Coronato beach via some very poor and run down shacks and lots of homeless people and then getting close to the beach we passed through some beautiful streets with gorgeous homes.  We got to the Coronato beach and just caught the end of the sunset. The beach was nice but we didn't hang around long as it was getting quite cold.  We drove home and that was it for the night.

19TH JANUARY 2011 - San Diego Zoo. This morning we had breakfast at a nearby restaurant. I had an ham and cheese omelette with toast.  It was quite nice but the cheese was bright orange and not great (all the cheese we have had in USA has been average, its rather plastic). Troy had pancakes with maple syrup.  We then drove to San Diego Zoo for the day.  We arrived just after 9am and spent the whole day exploring the place.  Its a great zoo and we saw so many animals we have never seen before.  We saw heaps - pandas (so cute), polar bears, grizzly bears, gorgeous flamingos, artic foxes (so cute), zebras, sun bears, elephants, rhinos, monkeys, hippos, lions, leopards, jaguars (these guys are so cool), zebras, meerkats (ugly looking things, always remind me of that terrible Optus add), camels, giraffes, koalas (oh yeah sign says they live in "Australia and Tasmania", did you know Tasmania is another country according the Americans????? had to laugh HELLO Tasmania is in Australia. We also saw snakes, tapia, frogs, wombats, secretary birds, alligator snapping turtle (weird looking animal - like a cross between a turtle and small alligator).  We had to laugh at the bonking warthogs -- it was so funny a guy in the distance could see the warthogs having fun so he yells out really loud "YEEEEEAH" it was hilarious.  We also saw gorillas, weird looking camels, tigers, pumas, orangutans and the list go on.  We stopped for lunch and at just before 5pm we left.  It was a fun day and great seeing so many animals we have never seen before.
