15 AUGUST 2010 - Up early to check out of our hostel in Split and catch a ferry to Hvar Island.  We head down to the ticket office and buy our tickets which only cost about $10 each for a 1hr ferry ride to Hvar.  We board our catamaran about 11am and then sail at 11.30am.  One hour later we arrive in gorgeous Hvar Island. It was such a quick trip and I have never seen so many yachts in the water, they were everywhere and could even see heaps of little white tips sticking out of the water (the sails of many yachts in the distance) and it looked so cool.

We walk towards the castle and then find the bus station near the supermarket where we get picked up by our host at House Ivanovic after we gave them a call.  Ivanka drove us to her apartment.  She is a lovely lady who speaks English very well. She tells me she likes the name Maria, her daughter’s name is Maria too and she lives in Perth.  We got to our room which is nice with a kitchen and airconditioning.  She explains where to go, where to eat on and so on her map.  We chill out for a while and then had lunch, a burger for Troy and club sandwich for me.  After lunch its time for the beach as its really hot. Along the way I spot a dalmatian dog on the Dalmatian coast - cool, I got a photo of him roaming the town.  This town is stunning, its really beautiful and a photographer’s delight.  There are many swimming spots here and lots of them have beach clubs where you have to pay to us the deck chairs and lounges on rocks.  Also there are several bars pumping techno crap again and youngies dancing, posh resorts, restaurants along this strip and lots and lots of people lying on rocks, very rocky beaches here.  Swimming is so nice, water is cold and but very clear.  There are lots of tourists around here especially heaps of Italians and some that think they are so bloody stunning and I hear them criticising others, mmmm bit sick of seeing them do that.  I am the only one around wearing a one piece, my god I wish I could wear a bikini sometimes but maybe in my next life.  This place is paradise for yachties, yes yachts everywhere and I mean everywhere.  A beautiful spot here. All I can say to my dear father-in-law Bobby, get your backside over here one day, you will be in yacht heaven and its a gorgeous place to see millions of them.

So far we have found most Croatians quite friendly and even though we never expect it most speak English which once again makes our travels not challenging enough I think.  Once again I hear the locals speak Croatian and then English and some even speak Italian.  WOW so many people speak at least 3 or more languages, its amazing.

16TH AUGUST 2010 - We have just spent the last few days swimming and taking photos, exploring backstreets and loving the warm weather.  Ivanka our host is such a lovely lady and she washed all our clothes for free.  We came home and found all our clothes washed hanging on her line.  A quiet day!!!!!!!!

17TH AUGUST 2010 - Today we had lunch in the main square and then headed off to the beach.  We went to try out another beach but it was quite crowded with I love myself Italians, seriously so many of them think they are bloody supermodels.  Seriously this place has been taken over by Italians on their August holiday and must admit some of them can be a bit painful. At times I feel like we are back in Italy and not in Croatia. It was cool today to see a Dalmatian dog at the beach, a Dalmatian on the Dalmatian.

We walked back to our apartment, the uphill walk is bit of a hike, coming down isn’t too bad.  We chilled out for a while and then headed off to have pizza for dinner near the harbour where there were heaps of very flash yachts with people eating dinner on them with their personal waiter and chef of course.  They are probably munching of lobster and cavar and sipping on expensive wine while we just sit here and eat a ham and pineapple pizza and sip on orange juice and beer.  Arrrr maybe in my next life I could do what they are doing and even wear that bikini.

Its sad to be leaving Hvar Island, I don’t think we spent enough time here, I could of stayed forever.  This town is so photogenic and has made me very trigger happy here.  Seriously I could of just walked around all day every day just taking photos. Every angle, every corner and every back street which I loved exploring and are so interesting are a photo opp.  Look at my photos and you’ll get an idea of why I loved this place and why I think its just so beautiful.  Bobby - buy a yacht here and I will live on it for you (as long as you organise a cook, a waiter, a skipper, a cleaner, a whatever it takes to run and maintain it - I will be there and I think your son will join me.

18TH AUGUST 2010 - This morning we checked out of our apartment and paid our bill to our lovely host Ivanka.  Seriously Ivanka is the nicest lady in Croatia.  She treated us like family and it felt like we were staying with relatives.  She kindly washed our clothes for free which was fantastic.  She packed our bags into her car and told us she will meet us at the bus station at 1pm.  So we walked down town and spent a few hours walking around and checking out yachts and taking more photos.  We had some lunch and then met Ivanka at the bus station.  It was sad to say goodbye, she gave us a hug and a kiss goodbye and a cold bottle of water.  She really knows how to look after her guests. I told her I didn’t want to leave, she says so do you want to help me around the house, clean the rooms and make beds etc, I said yes I will. (I would of stayed if she was serious).
