25 JULY 2010 - After an early breakfast we left our hostel in Vienna at 8am to Salzburg.  We drove through some absolutely gorgeous countryside, lots of beautiful green rolling hills and pine trees dotted with gorgeous towns, churches and chalets.  Austria is so beautiful.  We had a service stop and this place had some fantastic food but as we are still very full from last night and breakfast nothing tempted us.  We then drove for another few hours and stopped for a short time in Gruenau which is a gorgeous little town in the mountains and had a break at the Tree House Hostel.  This small town has some beautiful houses and the hostel we stopped at is quite far from the centre of town.  We hopped back on the bus and drove through more magical scenery and then arrived into Salzburg, one of my favourite places in Austria and first time visit for Troy. We checked into the Yoho International Hostel (same one I stayed in 13 years ago) and then went for a walk into the town which took about 10 minutes.  Salzburg is a very pretty place and its also manageable by foot.  Its also cooler here today, its only about 19 degrees.  We walked around for several hours admiring the town and its beautiful views and listening to music playing. We sat down in the square and had a snack of a huge sweet pretzel.  We also walked down the river where there was a long row of markets selling jewellery, ornaments, clothing, olives, breads, cheeses and heaps more.  We walked over a bridge and back towards the castle and saw heaps of great photos on exhibition of people from all different nationalities in Salzburg. Its rather busy in town as there is a Salzburg music festival, some playing beautiful musical instruments such as the harp and guitar.  A lot of Austrians are walking around wearing traditional clothing, the women those long colourful dresses and the men those sexy shorts with braces and long socks.  Its rather cool to see and even some little kids are wearing the same gear, so cute.  On our way home we had very non traditional dinner of a chicken kebab which was so cheap and not bad. We got back to the hostel and watched part of the Sound of Music video, I don’t know why so much of it is rather boring.

26TH JULY 2010 - After a slack morning we went for a walk into town.  We walked through the gorgeous streets in the rain.  It cleared up and we found an old cemetery and then stumbled across the oldest bakery in Salzburg and had to buy a large braided sweet bread, it was yummy. We had a sausage sandwich and strudel for lunch which both were pretty good.  We had to stop at the supermarket and buy Austrian chocolates, yum! We decided to make our way up to the castle before it rains again.  We walked through the museums and admired the beautiful views of Salzburg.  This place is gorgeous. After a few hours up at the castle we kept walking around town and then decided to have dinner and we had Indian which was pretty good and cheap.  It was getting really cold now, windy and its only been 16 degrees which is strange as its been in the high 30’s everywhere in Europe so the temperature has dropped by at least 20 degrees.  We headed back to our hostel for a few hours and then went back into town at night to take some night time photos of the castle.  Its so pretty.

27TH JULY 2010 - We checked out and then put cheap breakfast across the road and bought it back to our hostel to eat.  We have several hours to kill before we get picked up so on the internet and relaxing in the common room.  We left Salzburg at about 1.30pm.
