Where I stayed
Early start today. We left as a group for Petra at 8am with Zuhir our guide. A long walk into the site with the last 1.6km through the Siq, a narrow canyon in the rocks.
Finally Zuhir made us line up on the left side of the Siq and close our eyes - we took 3 steps forward and looked right to see the Treasury appear before us, just like the Indiana Jones movie.
Walked down around the Treasury and then continued further into the site. We went around some more of the tombs and then climbed straight up to the Place of High Sacrifice. Very hard walk some 400 steps up but gave a great panoramic view.
Time for a break and some mint tea at the top and we headed down to the rear of the site and the base of the climb to the Monastary, we were accosted by local Bedouin kids selling rocks and as it turns out photos - as Dee found out when she took a pic of one little girl only to be chased down the path with the girl yelling "photo 1 dinar"
We had a late lunch break and and then split up, some went to climb to the monastary but I had used up my fitness for the day so headed back out to the entrance with Ali and Dee. A solid 45min uphill walk out of the site saw us back at the hotel at 4pm for ice creams after a long day in the site.
Petra is a fantastic site and very difficult to cover in 1 day - however I was happy with what I saw, I would like to visit again and see the Monastary.
