Sitting in a cafe in an alley watching the crazyness of downtown Amman. Mint tea, felafel, homous and fuul and stack of bread and only 2JD - sure beats working.
So here I am on day 2 in Amman, relaxing into the Middle East - it's a little different to home.
Got here yesterday morning, had a really good sleep on the plane (probably something to do with the massive hangover from farewell drinks), headed straight out and up to the citadel and the ruins up there. Checked out the Archeology museum where they have some of the Dead Sea Scrolls on display.
Walked down to the Roman Theatre and around through some of the bazaars into downtown Amman - lunch at a place out of the Lonely Planet guide and they were right on.
Went back to the hotel and crashed out early.
Woken up this morning by the friendly muzzein at the mosque outside the hotel, call to prayer at 0510 - actually quite cool lying in bed listening to it echo around the city.
Had brekky and met some others on my tour then caught a taxi to the Roman ruins at Jerash about 50km north of Amman - they are renowned as the best roman ruins outside of Italy. Spent a couple of hours walking around and then went to the hippodrome where they have chariots races and gladiators - little bit corny but good to see how it actually was.
Back to Amman and the Hotel, caught up with some more off the tour and walked back into downtown for lunch. Joining meeting for the tour is tonight at 6pm and we are off to the Dead Sea and Petra tomorrow.
