As the start of my 60th birthday celebrations I was taken to a farm near Invercargill for a brilliant surprise evening. Prior to leaving I had no idea where I was going  - all I was told was to make sure my clinic finished by 4.30pm. The farm belongs to one of the surgical secretary's and her husband (Helen and Terry O'Meara) who treated us to one of the most friendly and hospitable evenings of my life. The highlight was shearing a sheep although there was a host of other things which will be detailed in another blog. We were feasted with vast quantities of NZ wine, a fantastic BBQ and and birthday cake all courtesy of Helen and Terry. The evening was organized by my manager Peter Bramley and his wife Margi (in collusion with Lyn) and I think it sums up the philosophy of New Zealanders and was one of, if not THE best birthday treat of my life!

Well I never!
I had you down for quite a few career changes but sheep shearing was not one of them!

Suits you, sir!
Definitely like the boiler suit. Reminds me of a safari suit you made years ago!

Re: Suits you, sir!
I think it was a better fit than the boiler suit!

60th celebrations
fantastic pictures - shame there have been no jokes about being welsh and sheep yet (oops)
You might like to know that your sheep shearing exploits were the talk of recent pre-christmas social events back in blighty - life has become so dull since you left we now meet up to talk about you - not really obviously that would be very sad. But we were at a party with Clive and Peter who had both heard/read about your recent adventures. Perhaps when you come back you could suggest a country farm on the green site opposite St Heliers as part of the hospital merging and redevelopment programme. Just a thought. K and Nick

Re: 60th celebrations
That's not such a bad idea as long as it wasn't linked to a new build as there would have to be at least 4 reviews and public consultations!
