Hi everyone - I'm cheating a bit here as I did not do an entry in Hong Kong and am actually doing this bit in Invercargill.
We had a great time in Hong Kong - weather not too bad although we had a typhoon warning (which Lyn was quite excited rather than frightened about!) which was lifted the morning we left. However, we were still stuck on the runway for 2.5 hours whilst the winds rocked the plane and the rain came down in buckets (or at least it sounded as though it was in buckets). Did the usual tourist sights i.e. Victoria Peak and Hong  Kong Island one day followed by bird, goldfish and flower markets as well as the History Museum (excellent) on Kowloon the next day. Had a great chinese lunch in a sort of transport cafe - only Europeans there and menu quite difficult to understand as were the chopsticks to use (especially for Lyn before she realised she had them upside down - yes there is an upside down!- by mistake to be fair). Also had a great meal with a great view in a very nice restaurant high above the harbour.
Considering Hong Kong was a Colony for such a long time there were very few Europeans and not everyone spoke English.
Trivia number one: 7.5 million residents in Hong Kong which means 750 people per sq kilometer and 28 million
tourists last year! No wonder it feels crowded..

Cheers

Message from the Austens!
Glad you've arrived safely. Thanks for the Hong Kong pictures, reminded me of my visit many years ago! I remember the bird market but not the bags of locusts. Looking forward to seeing some pictures from Invercargill and thanks Lyn for your long e-mail - I think I can already picture the town but now waiting to hear more about your South Island trips. All quiet at No. 28. Summer has come at last - we spent most of the week-end sitting in the garden! Love Jean and Ben

Re: first attempt
I'm impressed you managed to get a photo on it! Obviously very IT literate. See if anyone else can manage that! Let me know when you're blog is set up. I found the photos took a while to get to grip with but now seem quite easy. Good luck!
