Hi gamblers,

Strap yourself in for some hardcore pokie stories. Consider this winning the jackpot of bloggy goodness.

Day 15 - 20 June 2011:
The drive to Vegas was about 6 and a half hours. We broke up the trip so
it didn't knock us around too much. We also had lunch at Denny's (an
American chain of restaurants we had seen in the movies etc). It was
great, and to our surprise they even offered fresh veggies with a
dipping sauce rather than fries.

"This is hella healthy to the max dude" - Shelly Nowland.

After juicing up on a couple of litres of Red Bull, we continued the
drive. It was a nice time to head into Vegas as the sun had just set so
the lights stood out even more. We finally reached the edge of the city
at about 9:30pm. Vegas certainly is a bit intimidating when you first
arrive...

After checking in at the Tropicana with a ton of other guests we went to our room to dump our gear. As it was pretty late, we grabbed some room service and freshened up before hitting "The Strip".

We only managed half, before fatigue set in but we managed to see a bunch of casinos and all the bright lights. It was also extremely hot, even at midnight, so it knocked us around a bit. This intense heat kept up the whole time we were in Vegas.

"I'm tired and my feet hurt and my toe is relaxed." - Shelly Nowland.

We went back to our room and hit the hay. I had to carry Shell's toe home as the poor little thing had fallen asleep near New York New York.

Good night :)

Day 16 - 21 June 2011:
Good morning/afternoon Las Vegas.

We had a big sleep in on our first morning in Sin City. We rose about lunch time with no game plan but to go with the flow.

We had a brunchalishious brunch in the Tropicana restaurant. Big brekky burritos would provide us the energy we needed for the upcoming day. This also helped to contribute to my ever expanding waist line...

"You need to eat a salad once in a while Ross." - Shelly Nowland.

After waiting the appropriate 30 minutes so as to avoid a stomach cramp, Shelly hit the pool at the Tropicana. I broke out in sweat just thinking about some light exercise so decided to hit the gaming tables and get my drink on.

After winning a little bit of money on blackjack, we met back up and got ready for the evening's show. We were heading to the Venetian casino to watch the Blue Man Group. The walk to the Venetian was long and the heat was overwhelming (I think something over 100 degrees Farenheit).

Once inside the Venetian, out of the heat, we checked in for the show. I can not describe the Blue Man Group in words but will use interpretive dance when I get home, if you like.

"Wow, I'm speechless for once." - Shelly Nowland.

After a great show, we walked around the Venetian for a bit which is an awesome casino with it's own little Italy inside and you can ride gondolas down a little river.  We then headed outside and braved the heatwave again and decided to walk the rest of the Strip that we had missed the earlier night. By Tom's request, we grabbed some novelty sized pina coladas to keep us going. I only got called a bad name once by a redneck in a car...

We walked all the way down the strip (quite a long walk) to the Stratosphere Casino. This is the tallest casino in Vegas which has a rollercoaster and some other rides at the top of it, a bloody long way up. Daredevil Shell was keen to go up and hit the rides, but we decided to give it a miss when we saw how much it cost, plus we were only half way through our pina coladas. This didn't really bother me, not being a lover of heights and all. Eventually we made our way back to New York New York which is across the street from the Tropicana. Inside we were able to watch some dueling pianists which was pretty cool. They were playing requests and really revving up the crowd.  We topped off our night with a few bevos (how unusual) and then stumbled across the road to bed.

Day 17 - 22 June 2011:
Our third day in Vegas was another late start but we were quickly learning that time doesn't matter in Sin City.

We decided to hit the premium shopping outlets in Las Vegas. I won't bore you with details but this is probably the only time Shelly and I have enjoyed shopping together. We both bought a heap of stuff, even though we had no room in our cases... We'll show you when we get home.

Shelly once again hit the pool and I gambled away our kids college money.

We found some really cheap tickets for Elvis - Cirque Du Soleil and included was a discount at Wolfgang Puck's for dinner. Dinner turned out to be the best we had eaten so far, with the appetizers being melt in your mouth bruschetta and salt and pepper squid. The mains were awesome too.

I felt a little let down by the Elvis show. I was looking forward to some Cirque Du Soleil acrobatics set to Elvis music, which did happen at the start of the show but died off soon after. The Elvis music and dancing was still fun and overall we had a good time. Shelly loved it which is the main thing.

"Just as long as you are happy, then I am Darling." - Ross Merchant.

Tomorrow was a trip to the Grand Canyon, so we'll pick up there in our next installment.

Happy gamblin'

Shells, now I don't believe you complained about a relaxed toe, that little toe has been relaxed all it's life or just plain lazy, it's been getting piggybacked around town all it's life...I can't wait for the dance moves, I think we will settle in with a few novelty size bevvies ourselves on your return and wait for the show !
