Went to Fort Lauderdale airport to pick up what should have been the last car of my road trip. I had booked another Ford Mustang Convertible. When I got there, they handed me the keys to a very ugly Chrysler Sebring. I was really pissed off, especially as the number plates started with AFC. They said I could upgrade to a stunning Chevy Camaro for an extra $500. Thought about it long and hard and thought, sod it, why not. Then they said it had just been taken, so off I went in the ugly Arsenal mobile...fuming!

I was only stopping in Daytona because it was on the way. Not really my sort of place. You have two choices of route. The coastal route, which is VERY slow, or the ugly I95. I did a bit of both. Probably the most boring drive of my trip so far.

Got to Daytona just before a big thunder storm hit. It didn't last long, but was quite fierce (strong that is, not "you go girl" type fierce) Hotel was quite dated, but had a nice view over the beach and ocean. Beach was full of redneck families with their cars parked right along side them. Yes, you can park your car on the beach...how bizarre! They didn't seem to mind the thunder and lightning going off all over the place. Too busy eating their fried chicken and grits probably.

I was still fuming about the car, so decided to see if I could change it. Unfortunately, my room didn't seem to have the free "high speed" internet advertised on the hotels website! No reception what so ever. Got in touch with the rental company who had a base at Daytona airport. They had one Chevy Camero left, but couldn't hold it until tomorrow, so jumped in the Arse mobile and drove the 10 miles or so to change the car. So glad I did. The Chevy Camaro (or CaMary as I've named it) is just stunning, and I only had to pay $200 extra! Think the other bloke was trying to rip me off.

Got back and had a walk on the beach, then went out for a drink. Found a very nice bar about a mile away that had a Karaoke night. Karaoke is great if you've had a bad day and just want to relax with a drink and judge other peoples unfortunate voices and dress sense. Let's start with the host. He was wearing red and black jammers and a matching shirt with cut off sleeves. He had an Elvis hair style but Liberace face. He was actually a very good singer, as were most of the singers. Didn't stay too long, as I intended to get an early start the next day.
