Unfortunately, we got to KC MO just in time for everything to close. We really wanted to see the Steamboat Arabia Museum and the Liberty Memorial and National World War I Museum, but they were both closed. We walked around the latter, which was very impressive. There is a tall memorial column flanked by 2 winged sphinxes with their wings covering their faces, shielding "Past" and "Future" from the horror and carnage of war. Take a look at the dedication in 1921, where they referred to the war as "The" World War, not knowing that in less than 2 decades a far more horrific and global war would be thrust upon humanity.

On the lighter side of KC MO, we drove through a really nice residential area where they could have filmed a new reality tv series - MO Mansions (Emi's idea). Nearby was a newer shopping district called Country Club Plaza. Unfortunately, the gondola boat rides were closed, but we saw quite a few of the many water fountains in KC MO. Reportedly, the only city with more fountains is Rome itself. These fountains were originally water troughs, and have now been repurposed.

KC is much hillier and rockier than we expected. But the barbecue excellence was not a surprise. We had a fantastic barbecue dinner at Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbeque. Food, service, location, and atmosphere were superb.

Afterwards, we drove across the river to KC KS (simply does not have the same ring to it), and headed off to Fayetteville, Arkansas. The kids wanted to stay in KC MO overnight, but the itinerary could not be altered.
