We liked Thai Airways for the legroom, complimentary drinks and the stress-free flight but still we were disorientated by the time difference and had to sleep during the morning.  We had a good meeting with our six fellow travellers.  Apple, our leader, is very friendly and bubbly.  All of us went to a small local restaurant that evening, then off for further refreshment afterwards.  Pam and I enjoyed seeing the street life but after some drinks we returned to the hotel for much needed sleep and tried to shake off sore throats and aches!  The first organised trip started after a generous and varied breakfast, with a long tail boat ride.  Melvin was fascinated by the variety of engines used to power these boats, many fitted with turbo chargers!  Apple escorted us around the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok, containing a reclining Buddha 46m long and covered in gold leaf.  Pam and I returned to the restaurant of the previous evening, while more adventurous types continued to explore.  Pam followed up with a session of foot massage (100% Bliss, I'm told).
Our small group are now beginning to gather in Reception of Bangkok Centre Hotel, ready for the next leg of the journey, by night train to Chiang Mai.  Looking forward to sharing my snoring with forty or so other people in the carriage!

This entry has been hanging around for several days because I messed up the publishing procedure - hope it goes properly this attempt??!
