In the morning we woke up to the sound of pouring rain. We were disappointed since all the siteseeing in Hualien was outside. It finally let up, so we went for a walk around the ocean. It was so beautiful Matt saw an ocean liner, and he is pretty sure that it was stuck. It has been on the bottom of the ocean and they haven't be able to move it since. We rented a two seated bicycle and rode around the ocean. It was really beautiful. The bike was so hard to steer, but I think I did a good job. We stopped at the beach to sit and take on rest. On the way back it started to pour so bad, that anyone who saw us started laughing. They couldn't believe these two foreigners on this two seated bike with no rain coats, were just sailing along like it was nothing
In the morning we headed out on a tour of Toroko Gourge. This huge mountain on the Eastern shore of Taiwan. The whole bus was chinese as well as the tour guide. So unfortunetly we didn't learn too much about the mountain while we were there, but a couple tips. We got to see the eternal spring shrine, which is this beautiful waterfall streaming down the side of the mountain just below a shrine. Me and Matt decided to explore a bit and found a small staircase that went around the mountain cliffs up to a buddist temple. We didn't have time to make it the whole way, but we found some neat caves on the way. We went up to another temple on the mountain, which is the highest place of worship in Taiwan. They had a huge tower there, which we climbed up, it made it even higher. While driving up the mountain the highways and caves were very scruffy looking. This is because all the caves and roads were actually hand made and chisled out by the retired soliders before the war. They were so jaged and you could tell that it took a long time. It was a great day and to top it all off the tour headed to the beach for one last stop. Matt had to eat a hot dog of course!!! Hahahaha.
It was an absolutely great weekend!! We felt like we got away and saw so many beautiful things.
