We arrived today in Christchurch, but not before an eventful few days of driving and train rides.

Yesterday we left Queenstown and drove to Franz Joespf glacier where we didn't do much more than walk to the glacier in the dark, have mom peek into the spa pool and witness something she shouldn't have, eat, and sleep.

Then today we were up early and back in the car to drive to Greymouth to catch the train to Christchurch. On mom's request we stopped in Hokitika, right before Greymouth, for a bite to eat. Hokitika was just like any other small town in New Zealand, but definetly not anything like the moms have experienced before. We decided to eat at Sister Brown's Cafe only because the day's special was "free advice" and it's not everyday that advice is given out for free. Not only was there free advice but there were great homemade pies which made it more than a worthwhile stop...and Sister Brown herself was there. Sister Brown being a dog. Her owner was also there making food and dishing out advice. When she found out that we were from the Sunshine State the first thing she asked us was whether or not we were private investigators. Of course we said no, but she proceeded to ask us if we knew of a man whom she had given $14,000 to about 20 years ago. We were then given the task to look for him when we got home and report back to her via a resturant postcard with Sister Brown's picture on the front. She told us all about Jesus, the stock market and her business sense ("It all tastes good, because you better believe I wouldn't sell shit."). More free advice than what I was expecting.

The train ride wasn't as spectacular as the word on the street said it was. But for my first train ride I was just glad we didn't de-rail like all those news reports on CNN. We sat at a little table and made sandwhiches and just hung out for the few hours it took to cross the South Island.

We're in Christchurch and staying in a great hotel. We're definetly traveling in the right style these days...
