We made the drive along the Pacific Coast Highway (much different than California's I assure you) and decided to take the road less traveled and visit the East Cape, New Zealand's most eastern point. There wasn't awhole lot to do when we pulled the van over on the side of the dirt road. Unless of course we wanted to play in the cow fields. Instead we made friends with two Isreali girls who were there to do the same thing we were: to see the world's first sunrise.

We awoke at 3:30 (Molly, too!!) and put on 18 layers of clothes and prepared for the long hike up the hill. 742 steps later we sat huddled together in the dark at the base of the lighthouse waiting for the sun to make its first apperance. After an hour the sun was bright and shinning. It was a great start to the day.

Since we were already up we decided the best thing would be to just start driving. And it certainly was. En route we were stopped by cows leisurely crossing the street...and they were definetly in the "mood" if you know what I mean.

Now we are in Gisborne and we'll see where that takes us. It's a cute town so we should enjoy our time here.
