Day two took us to the South Sea Island where we were able to lounge around and drink beer all day (yet again on the economic diet because it was free)
. We began our morning with a trip on a semi-submurssive vessel around the island traveling through the reefs. Thinking that nothing could top that we decided to go snorkling anyway. We were wrong and the water was amazing. It was so clear that you would be afraid to pee in it in fear that the people on land would notice. It wasn't deep at all and we were able to swim along with all the fantastic fish that we had just seen in the boat. I think we would have given about anything to have an underwater camera but were just too in awe to get out of the water. Molly got a minor coral injury, a cut right below her knee. Don't worry though, with our first aid preperations, thansk to both our mothers, and my extensive ER watching I was able to mend the wound. Not wanting to feel like she owed me anything, later at lunch when I ate a mysterious spicy vegetable and thought my throat was closing up while tears streamed down my face Molly passed me a beer to relive the pain. Phew...we're even now. The rest of the day was literally spent laying on the beach. We rolled over at one point to sift through the sand and find shells. It was a great day of just laying and getting that Fijian tan we've always dreamed about.
Unfortunately, no Britney Spears sightings. Honeymoon is over I guess.
We're sad to leave Fiji but we can't wait to get to New Zealand!
After our first day spent getting over the time change (although we still are blamming our early bedtimes to jetlag) we boated out to Robinson Crusoe Island for our day of natvie Polynesian fun. We were welcomed by a group of men singing us the bula welcome song and then soon ushered around the welcoming mat to drink kava (the favorite native drink of the Fijians...drink to much and our mouth goes numb and you fall asleep) The day was spent snorkling, eating a fantastic lovo meal that was cooked underground(compliant with the economic diet as it was free), eating coconut pulled right from the top of the palm, kayaking, watching native dance and even doing some dancing ourselves. The island was great and the people were fun. We even worked it out to get a free fifteen minute massage.
