Besides work we have had some time to see and try a few things. We have gone on some gorgeous snowshoe hikes and love it. We took a day trip to Montreux (as in the montreux jazz festival) for their Christmas market. They had what seemed like hundreds of little huts lining the streets and the waterfront offering their xmas goods and specialty treats
Before it got crazy busy at work, we did manage to get out and try snowboarding. It is a hell of a lot harder than it looks... Just ask the bruises on our sore butts!
We have also tried a new winter sport so to speak. Ski-bobbing (see video). It is basically like a bike with skis on it instead of wheels (or a one-ski GT sno-racer). In the kitchen we tend to work later than the last train down the mountain so it is the nightly commute home. They can get up to 50 or 60 km/hr. We go from an elevation of 1850 metres to 1200 metres in about 10 minutes. Pretty wild in the dark with only a little headlamp guiding you. On more than one occassion there have been some spills. Thankfully snow is soft. It is exhilarating after a long day inside.
The xmas season was quite busy around the chalet as well. We moved into the staff dorm for a couple of weeks as they got a pretty penny for our private room. We managed to get some interesting stories while there however. One night I woke up about 3am to find a Scottish guy climbing on the shelves in the room. I approached him as he was crawling under a table. He was shirtless and wearing a clown nose. He asked me if it was ok to hide there. I could only assume he was hiding from some mystic dwarf out to turn him into a tree or something. After a mild confrontation he left apologetically. The next night was also quite interesting. I was awoken by a friend of ours, Jack (also living in the staff room) at about 4am. After a few pints to many at the pub that night, he stumbled out of bed and proceeded to pee all over the couch and most of Megan's clothing hanging nearby. Needless to say he had an embarrassing date with the laundry machines the next day, hungover of course. After about ten days there we were more than happy to move back to our private room. Oh hostel life.
Well that is about it for our update. We hope to see and do a few more things in the not too distant future (not involving high Scottish people or pee of course), so we will post again soon.
We miss you and wish you all the best in the new year!
