Where I stayed
Flying J (Columbia, SC)
Today I visited the capitol building in Columbia, South Carolina. The building was interesting and lavishly decorated with dark woods, leather furniture, and a large glass mosaic of the state seal. There were also bronze stars on the exterior of the building that marked locations where artillery struck the building during General Sherman's advance in the Civil War. I didn't have a lot of time to spend at the capitol building, but it was one I would have liked to explore more.
My next stop was the South Carolina State Museum. The museum was home to all branches of...museumry? It held the natural history, cultural history, civil war, and science museums all in one. The building itself is a re-purposed textile mill that lent a certain personality to the place. I didn't bother taking my camera into the museum, but I'm sure there would have been a couple neat shots in there.
After spending the day absorbing some of the history of South Carolina, I headed towards the northwest portion of South Carolina and spent the night in Seneca, SC.
