We wake up at 3am to view Mt. Bromo at sunrise. Jeeps take us on the hour long, very bumpy, very windy ride up the mountains. After a (cold hour) waiting around for the sun to peek over the horizon, we took a much shorter jeep ride to the sandy plain at the base of Mt. Bromo itself. A half hour walk to the base of the steps, then a steep climb of several hundred stairs takes us to the top of Mt. Bromo's caldera, where you can look down into the heart of the volcano, both seeing and smelling the rising fumes.
Back to the hotel by 8 for breakfast and checkout, followed by a full day of travel to Bali. As we descend out of the mountains, my left ear doesn't "pop" properly, and stays stuffy and painful. This is when I first knew for certain that my throat pain was an infection and wouldn't be going away on its own. I told our guide on the ferry ride over. He made arrangements for a doctor the next morning in Lovina.
