Where I stayed
The morning of the 8th I joined a handful of fellow masochistic Scrabblers in flying to Penang for another 18 games over the next three days. Why relax on the beautiful beaches of Penang when you could be playing more Scrabble?
I joined Sam for lunch at an Indian restaurant for lunch, then crashed in my room for a nap in the afternoon before venturing out on my own for dinner. Found a nearby Thai place where I got pad thai and a Diet Coke for 9 ringgit! What a deal.
Had a good final day yesterday in Penang. After the tournament ended (I finished 5th) , I went to the Esplanade and took a brief tour of Fort Cornwallis, before hauling tail back to the hotel to catch the 3:00 guided tour of the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion across the street. Once owned by one of the richest men in China, it's now rented out for special events and as a guest house. I just killed a couple of hours at the hotel lobby until my flight to Kuala Lumpur, which was late, of course. Taxis to and from the airport were more than the flight!
