What I did
unknowingly given a breathalyzer
So I had just found some really good prices on base layers that were going to keep me warm on the south island and were easy to pack, so clearly I was excited. Maybe a little too excited and preoccupied because I didnt realize that the speed limit was still 70km/h and had not yet changed to 100km/h. I unfortunately was sniped by a copper as I was reaching a smooth 109km/h. This resulted in a humble $400 fine. Happy 4th! He explained that I could pay or I could probably get away with not paying it because I was leaving the country in a few weeks, (which I was planning on from the second he told me a was almost 40km over the speed limit). It's deceiving though because km are shorter than miles so its easier to get over the limit unknowingly. To top it off, he asked me to count to 5 as he stuck a remote-looking thing in my face. Turned out it was a breathalyzer which he explained as "routine" for all traffic stops. When I asked if he would help me out and just not give me the ticket because I was new to the country and wasn't entirely sure about where I was going at any given moment he laughed at me and said "what are you going to wellington to meet up with friends?". No Ass. I'm traveling by myself. That didnt seem to matter to him though. Whoops? For the past week people have been passing me because I was driving too slow. HAAAAAAAAAAAA
