Our bus arrived in Turangi at about 1.30am . We had arranged with the hostel for them to leave the keys for our room in the phone box ouside the reception. After we finally found the hostel in the dark unlit streets we made our way to the phone box as planned only to find there was no key in there at all. So we weren't too happy. We wandered around the place to see if we could spot anyone and there was a bar in the hostel with about 3 peopls inside, including the barman. He let us in and told us that he actually had our key. So he gave it to us and we made our way across to the room (a dorm room). We tried the key in the door but it wouldn't work. The guy told us room 8a, which was where we went to, but the key said 7a on it. So, putting 2 and 2 together we went around to 7a, the key worked alright, but so did the screams of a woman in bed with her fella. It was a private double room!! Shit.

So some swift apologies and exits and we were back over to the barman. He apologised and gave us the correct key which worked in 8a. We got in there and it was nice and toasty. Outside was pretty cold. But when we went to go to bed there were no blankets or pillows on them. The guy sleeping in one of the other beds had nicked them all for himself!! Little fecker!! So we promptly woke him and he wasn't impressed. He gave us the blankets, or what we thought were the blankets, and he then decided that he had given us his own 'personal' blanket. So he had 3 pillows, 3 blankets and then another blanket of his own on top of these. Hmmm. We all went to bed anyway (me with one eye open) and after about 5 minutes he got up in a huff, packed his bag, took his blanket and went outside to sleep in his car! Then about half an hour later he came back in a went back to bed. What a nut job. THEN at about 4 am he got up in another huff, repacked his bags and went out to the car again. That was the last we saw of him, thank God.
