Nong Khai is a strange place but a few people love it for some reason.  We arrived at Mut Mee guest house not knowing quite what to expect and we realised it was a bit of a hippy/medidation obsessed place owned by a wildly dressed Kiwi man, Julian.  I think he is stuck in the late seventies, though he doesn't seem old enough to be really.  He explained that one night probably wouldn't be enough as people always seem to stay longer than planned.  We hoped to prove him wrong.

To escape him and the craziness we went for our usual exploratory walk and found nothing of particular interest, then had some tea.  We realised Julian was right, not because we loved the place but because you just can't get out of the town!

On return to the guest house we ran the gauntlet in the bathroom against the many mosquitoes, only too keen to bite at the first opportunity.  As we had nothing to do, the next day started with a lie in.  We visited the bus station to find out how to get to Chiang Mai and then visited the local Tesco Lotus for supplies of food, cosmetics and clothing.  Fortunately there was also a pizza restaurant at the complex too!

The rest of the evening was spent hiding from the pouring rain in our room and packing for the long trip to Chiang Mai.
