Today I went out from our hotel bright and early at 9:00 a.m. We made our way down through a flea market and was greeted by the Duomo which was absolutely magnificent. It's a gorgeous 13th century cathedral made of white, green and pink marble. Pictures will follow. On the way to the Duomo we past the Medici cathedral, which was gorgeous all on its own. Afterwards, we made our way to the famous Santa Maria Nouvella, which guess what WAS shutdown for the next year for cleaning. They actually covered the entire church with white cloth so that they are able to clean it night and day. Owell. This was followed by lunch at a little pizzeria joint with Ben, Shayne and a couple of other folks. We were entertained when Ben and Shayne decided to test their soccer wits against the young Europeans! Haha can we say ass spanking. Owell after that we visited Dante's Church which is were he supposedly first saw Beatrice his famous lover that he visits at the end of the Divine Comedy. Lastly we visited another Church whose name I have forgotten, but it houses some frescoes by Massacio, most famously the ones done concerning Saint Peter. We ended the day watching a lively Florentine parade in which they practically shut down the city to go out into the streets and dance. Way cool. Its about 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon and Im beat. Ill write again tomorrow.
