My friend Crystal arrived to Ho Chi Minh this afternoon.  Lin and her friend, Thuong, wanted to take us out to a cafe to listen to music. Crystal got ready and came downstairs to wait with us for Thuong... she fell asleep!  She was so tired from her long flight that she could not keep her eyes open, so she went to bed and I went out with Lin and Thuong to see Vietanamese bands singing American music at the cafe.
We went to a place called "Live Acoustic." It was nice. There is no cover charge and a one drink minimum.  We each had a fruit drink with yogurt and honey... very good.  The bands were actually decent- I was impressed.  I was singing along and kind of dancing in my seat- we were in the front and I turned to watch the crowd behind us, just wanted to see their reaction to the music... nobody was moving!  They were not singing... nothing!  I was surprised... I then stopped moving and singing. Hmmm... it's just a Vietnamese thing, I guess.
After the cafe Lin and I rode around the city- she wanted to show me more of Ho Chi Minh
We first came upon Notre Dame of Ho Chi Minh/Saigon. The church was beautiful. There is a large statue of the Virgin Mary in front of the church and there were some people standing around the statue singing, with many candles lit and placed at the feet of statue.  This statue of the Virgin Mary was the statue that cried, tears rolling down her cheek, in 1995- people from around the world came to see.  I remember watching this on TV.
Lin then took me along the river and the night market.  We drove through the market a couple of times... the market had a lot of food and clothes, like an American swap meet.  There were quite a few people out tonight.
We rode some more and stopped in front of the Ho Chi Minh City Hall.  It looked like an important building so I took a picture...
It was such a beautiful evening, the temperature was perfect and the sky was clear... we continued to drive around the city.  We passed many stores (I took a picture of my favorite :).
Before going home Lin took me to a boba milk tea store (equivalent to a Jamba Juice in the U.S.)... it is soooo good. I had strawberry milk tea with flavored boba balls.  Yum!
Another perfect evening in Ho Chi Minh thanks to Lin.
